Activision responds on MW2 terror attack

The terrorist attack is skippable says Activision - so that makes it okay.

Most of you will have by now seen the leaked footage from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 where you are called to join in with a terrorist attack on an airport.

The footage - where the player guns down innocent civilians running for their life has caused a storn of controversy among gamers and will no doubt find a happy home at the likes of Fox News and The Daily Mail.

Activision has issued a statement explaining the content of the game:

"The scene establishes the depth of evil and the cold bloodedness of a rogue Russian villain and his unit. By establishing that evil, it adds to the urgency of the player’s mission to stop them.

"Players have the option of skipping over the scene. At the beginning of the game, there are two ‘checkpoints’ where the player is advised that some people may find an upcoming segment disturbing. These checkpoints can’t be disabled.

"Modern Warfare 2 is a fantasy action game designed for intense, realistic game play that mirrors real life conflicts, much like epic, action movies. It is appropriately rated 18 for violent scenes, which means it is intended for those who are 18 and older."

Why is this such a big thing? Many games have had disturbing content and many will in the future. Disturbing but realistic scenarios should not be skipped just because there are lunatics out there who actually carry out the same things in real life.
No people were harmed during the making of the airport level just as no cute puppies were covered with paper cuts during the making of those famous toilet paper commercials. ;p

Transfixed, but not dead.
